What is credit card processing?

  • This simple explanation will outline what credit card processing (acquiring) involves:
  1. Merchants with a website selling their goods will need to accept payment online;
  2. The merchant’s customers select goods they want to purchase on the merchant’s website. The customer then clicks the merchant’s checkout button, after which they are asked for their credit card details;
  3. The merchant then sends these credit card details to our system;
  4. Our system then sends the transaction details to the bank who authorize or decline the transaction;
  5. Our system then sends the web merchant a successful (or unsuccessful)  transaction message and the merchant releases the goods to their customer or informs the customer that their transaction has not been successful
  6. The bank then pays the merchant the next day.
